BOAT FIRE IN GOOSE CREEK

August 12, 2008:  Shortly after 2000 hours, Station 8 was alerted for a Boat Fire on Goose Creek in the area of the Port Tobacco River.  MSU 8, Fireboat 8, Engine 8-3, Rescue 8, Paramedic Ambulance 8-9, and Chief 8 responded with a total of 12 personnel.  Fireboat 8,  launched from Goose Bay marina, was flagged down by a vessel approximately 2 minutes later.  Upon approach, the Fireboat crew found a 40’ Formula boat with 9 total occupants (6 children, 3 adults) standing on the bow of the boat.  The crew from Fireboat 8 quickly evacuated the distressed vessel’s occupants and placed them into the cabin on Fireboat 8.  It was then determined that there was a working fire in the engine compartment of the boat.  The crew raised the engine hatch and found moderate smoke conditions with fire burning in the engine compartment.  The fire was extinguished with a portable fire extinguisher, and overhaul was completed with an attack line deployed from Fireboat 8.  The occupants were transported back to Goose Bay Marina and extremely happy to be back on safe dry ground.  Fireboat 8 returned to the vessel to escort the towing vessel back to Goose Bay Marina.  Chief 11-A (as West Side Battalion Chief) had the command.  Units operated for approximately 1 hour.

FISHING TRIP ON THE BAY

July 2, 2008:  Today, several of the guys made the trek to Breezy Point in Calvert County for a charter fishing trip aboard the “Killin Time II.”  The trip was provided by the department for the top responders.  Early in the day, it was starting to look like all we would catch would be a sunburn, but the boat captain (Chuck Howes) landed us on some great fish.  A special thanks goes out to Captain Chuck and Tommy Howes for a great day.
