Units Alerted for a Structure Fire

Thursday night, units were alerted for a structure fire in the 6100 block of Mason Springs Road. Engine 8-3 arrived with a report of smoke showing. Further investigation revealed a fire in the attic. The engine crew advanced a hand line to the second floor to begin extinguishment. Engine 21-1 (NDW Stump Neck) advanced a backup line to the second floor, while Engine 7-3 (Potomac Heights) had a line on the first floor. T20 (NDW- Indian Head) and T-11 (Bryans Road) assisted on the scene. Tanker 8 supplied water. PA-8 and Ambulance 8-9 were also on the scene. The fire was caused by a malfunctioning exhaust fan in a bathroom. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced occupants. Chief 8A was the Incident Commander.
